The cooperative learning technique known as puzzle promotes the learning and motivation of students, allowing them to share a large amount of information in groups. Students are divided into small groups of five or six. Each group learns about an aspect or content and must become a specialist in the topic. In this group of experts, students must investigate together.

Thus, like in a puzzle, each piece (each student) is essential to achieve the final objective, the realization of a product. In this way, the technique requires the positive interdependence of the group members: no member of the group can achieve the final objective without the other members of the group also achieving it. In this way, the cooperative work and co-responsibility of all members to achieve the final objective is reinforced.
